Oh the lusciously sweet figs that have such a texture that combine the chewiness of their flesh with the smoothness of their skin. Figs are a great source of potassium, which help controls blood pressure. Since so many people do not eat enough fruits and vegetables, but do take in large amounts of sodium, they may be lacking in the proper amounts of potassium.

Here's something simple to bake next time you feel the need for a "fig fix".

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Carefully cut 8 large figs into quarters, leaving the bottoms in tact. Place them in an ovenproof baking dish and drizzle with honey. Cover with tinfoil and bake for 15 minutes, or until tender. Serve over ice cream, with cheese or alone as a side dish.
